Rep. Culberson Joins Texas Delegation in Request for Disaster Declaration

-

Washington, D.C. – Representative John Culberson joined all House Members of the Texas delegation in sending a letter to President Barack Obama in support of Governor Greg Abbott’s state disaster declaration request.

Harris County and the City of Houston experienced devastating flooding after seventeen inches of rain inundated the area in just under twelve hours. Over 1,700 homes have flood damage, and more than 1,200 high water rescues were performed by first responders.

“I recently toured the hardest hit areas of Harris County, and the destruction and loss of life is heartbreaking. I’ve seen the devastation that constituents of my district have experienced. In emergencies like these, the federal government has a duty and responsibility to step in and provide relief to those affected,’ Rep. Culberson said.

“Governor Abbott’s request for a major disaster declaration is the first step in getting Texans back in their homes and healing from the damage that this flood has caused. I urge the President to quickly grant the request for a disaster declaration so that Texans can get the support they need to rebuild their lives.”
