WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 4, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Two public hearings will be held in June for the public to give the City of Midland input on proposed priorities for federal Housing and Urban Development funds, as well as an amendment to the City’s Community Development Program.

The City Council will hold a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9 in the Council Chamber of City Hall at 300 N. Loraine to accept input on the proposed priorities that will guide usage of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds over the next five years and for the next fiscal year. A minimum of 70 percent of CDBG funds must be allocated to projects that benefit low and moderate-income individuals. The City of Midland expects to receive $656,282 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development along with $106,800 in program income. Examples of activities eligible for CDBG funding include: housing rehabilitation, sidewalk and street improvement, park improvements, code enforcement, lot clearance, economic development and public services.

After the meeting, staff will prepare a draft consolidated plan that will be available for a 30-day public review and comment period before its scheduled final approval on July 28.

The second public meeting to be held by City Council at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23 in the Council Chamber of City Hall at 300 N. Loraine regarding an amendment to the City’s Community Development Program. The amendment addresses $477,000 from the current CDBG Program year that is set aside for the Affordable Housing Development Program, and the addition of more funds to that program. The amendment would define the AHDP to acquire approximately 10 acres of land and install needed infrastructure for the development of at least 40 single family homes.

A document on the amendment is available for review through June 20 at the City Secretary’s Office on the third floor of City Hall at 300 N. Loraine and the Midland County Public Library’s downtown location at 301 W. Missouri. Any written comments can be mailed to the City’s Community Development Division at PO Box 1152, Midland, Texas 79702, by June 22.
