La Feria, Texas, Gets $1 Million for Stormwater Pump Station in La Bonita Neighborhood

-

Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) delivered $1 million in Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project Funding to the City of La Feria, Texas, to reduce stormwater flooding and prevent property damage. The money will install a new storm sewer pump station in the La Bonita neighborhood.

Gonzalez said the funding protects South Texas families and businesses in flood-prone areas. La Feria Mayor Olga Maldonado said the project will improve stormwater management in one of the city’s most affected areas. According to Gonzalez’s office, storms in March 2025 dropped 10 to 15 inches of rain in less than 48 hours in parts of the Rio Grande Valley, and low terrain raises flood risk for homes, small businesses and infrastructure.

Why it matters
