Ortiz Announces $50k Grant For Cameron County Housing Authority

-

WASHINGTON, DC – January 12, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, U.S. Rep. Solomon P. Ortiz (D-Texas) announced that the Cameron County Housing Authority received $50,565 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“Through the Family Self Sufficiency Program from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, we were able to secure this significant grant which will allow the Cameron County Housing Authority to hire a program coordinator who will work with residents to find training opportunities and job placement assistance,” Ortiz said. “We have worked hard with our local representatives, state officials and the federal government to ensure this funding comes to fruition.”

Housing residents enter into a contract of participation which outlines their responsibilities towards the completion of training and employment objectives over a five year period or less.

“I will continue to work with the Department of Housing and Urban Development to ensure we supply the training necessary for people to obtain employment,” Ortiz said. “At the same time, I know the people of South Texas–especially the ones that most needed it–will work to better their lives and the lives of their children.”

For more information about this grant, call Daisy Flores of the Cameron County Housing Authority at (956) 541-4983.
