Homeownership month spotlights Texas Realtors’ efforts to close homeownership gap

-

June is National Homeownership Month, when America turns its attention to homeownership and more Americans consider the benefits of owning their own home. In Texas, which ranks only 42nd out of 50 states in homeownership, it’s also an opportunity to examine how we can enable more Texans to buy homes, keep their homes, and close the homeownership gap.

“Owning a home is the cornerstone of the American Dream and we want to make that possible for more Texans,” said Randy Jeffers, chairman of the Texas Association of REALTORS®. “Whether advocating for property-tax relief or providing information on the best incentive programs for first-time homebuyers, we work every day to make homeownership more affordable. Getting more Texans into homes is just the first step. Through ongoing education and good public policy, we want Texas families to have every opportunity to keep living the American Dream.”

Homeownership builds and strengthens communities. Homeowners take pride in their homes, which are often their most valuable investment, and owning a home has financial benefits such as the ability to deduct mortgage interest and build equity. Texas Realtors advance public policies that benefit homeowners.

In June, Texas Realtors are wrapping up a three-month fair and affordable housing celebration, which began in April with Fair Housing Month. To learn more, visit TexasRealEstate.com.
