Representative Gallego, a resident of neighboring Alpine in Far West Texas, has been a strong advocate for rural areas since serving as the area’s congressman. He was particularly supportive of this project.
“Ensuring constituents have access to fresh and clean water is a priority of mine. Water is basic; we need it for everything,” Representative Gallego said. “I thank Paco Valentin of USDA and all of the USDA Texas Rural Development staff for helping to provide the resources needed for our communities.”
The grant money will help bring fresh water to the City of Big Lake as well as Reagan County – serving about 2,855 residents in the area, according to information provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
In addition to the $4.2 million federal grant, the Reagan County Water Supply District will provide an additional $1,082,550 in funds to leverage the project.
