Nationally-recognized homebuilder will pursue LEED for Homes certification across Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas market

Dallas, TX – February 16, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — McGuyer Homebuilders, Inc. (MHI) today announced it will pursue the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes certification for all homes under its signature brands – Plantation Homes, Coventry Homes and Carmel Builders across the greater Dallas/Fort Worth, Tex. market. MHI, a leader in the production homebuilding community in Texas, announced its commitment at this week’s Texas Green Home Summit in Irving. With a commitment estimated at approximately 300 homes, MHI would become the largest builder of single-family LEED homes in the Texas market.

“With nearly 10,000 certified homes and over 30,000 awaiting certification, LEED for Homes has been embraced by market leaders in the multifamily, affordable and custom home segments,” said Nate Kredich, Vice President of Residential Market Development, USGBC. “With this strong commitment from MHI, we’re now thrilled to welcome a proven leader from the production home community into the LEED for Homes program.”

MHI has been a leader in the production green homebuilding community locally, with a commitment to both ENERGY STAR® and Green Built Texas through its Eco Smart program. Its newly announced engagement with LEED for Homes marks MHI’s first commitment to a national green homebuilding program.

“Our collaboration with the nationally known LEED for Homes program ensures our Eco Smart homes will provide a cleaner, healthier and more cost efficient home to operate and maintain, plus the homes are independently inspected for performance in the DFW area,” said Ken Gezella, Regional Sales Manager, MHI. “We are so confident in the performance of our LEED-certified homes that we will guarantee heating and cooling costs through our Efficiency Promise program.”

Continued Gezella, “MHI is proud to be the first, major production homebuilder to make the commitment to the LEED for Homes program.”

The Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council is committed to a prosperous and sustainable future for our nation through cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings.

With a community comprising 78 local affiliates, nearly 16,000 member companies and organizations, and more than 157,000 LEED Professional Credential holders, USGBC is the driving force of an industry that is projected to contribute $554 billion to the U.S. gross domestic product from 2009-2013. Greater building efficiency can meet 85% of future U.S. demand for energy, and a national commitment to green building has the potential to generate 2.5 million American jobs.
