WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 26, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court issued its 5 to 4 ruling affirming the use of an important tool in fighting against housing discrimination.

“Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court in Texas Department of Housing v. Inclusive Communities Project affirms the use of an important tool in protecting the Fair Housing Act of 1968’s long-standing fairness principles,” Edwards said. “The ‘disparate impact’ principle has been used for decades to combat discriminatory private actions and public policy. I am grateful that the Court correctly upheld the use of ‘disparate impact’ as a critical approach to helping address residential segregation and unequal housing outcomes.

“This decision affirms our nation’s core beliefs that actions are still needed to strengthen equality, including expanding healthcare, education and voter access for all Americans.”
