Cameron County, Texas, will receive $9,182,608 in federal funds to reconstruct about 0.35 miles of Rio Grande Avenue and provide access to a new public commercial motor vehicle parking facility near the Los Indios Port of Entry, Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) announced.

The project will include roughly 305 dedicated truck parking spaces. The funding will also support roadway improvements, driver amenities, security features, an automated weight station and intelligent parking system technology.

Gonzalez said South Texas is an international hub for trade and commerce and that its infrastructure must keep pace with heightened demands. He said the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which he voted for, authorized the funding.

Why it matters

The project adds freight infrastructure near a border port, which may be relevant to logistics and industrial property in the Rio Grande Valley.
