HOUSTON, TX – September 26, 2008 – (RealEstateRama) — Hines, the Houston-based international real estate firm, has contributed $100,000 to the “Texans Helping Texans” campaign started by the Houston Texans to aid people victimized by Hurricane Ike.
The Texans announced the creation of the Texans Helping Texans campaign prior to the team’s game on Sunday, September 21 against the Tennessee Titans. The goal of the campaign is to raise $2 million through NFL, corporate and private donations. Hines’ contribution brings the total amount raised through corporate, team and league contributions to $1,450,000.
“Our hearts go out to those in our community who suffered losses. We are pleased to make this contribution in honor of the men and women of Hines who worked around the clock to get tenants back in our buildings as soon as possible,” said Hines CEO Jeff Hines. “In addition to Texans Helping Texans, we also plan to make a major gift to the United Way during their upcoming campaign. Unfortunately, there are many needs to be met in Texas and limited resources. We are fortunate to be in a position to assist.”
Texans owner Bob McNair donated $500,000 to the campaign; the National Football League and the NFL Players Association contributed $500,000 through the league’s disaster relief fund; Chevron Corporation contributed $250,000 and H.E.B. added $100,000.
The remaining funds will be donated from fans, corporate sponsors and business partners. The funds will be divided among two relief funds: the Houston Ike Relief Fund, which was established by Houston Mayor Bill White for short term relief such as food, water and medicine for victims, and the United Way for long term goals.
Fans may contribute to the Texans Helping Texans campaign by logging on to HoustonTexans.com, the team’s official website, starting on Tuesday, September 23 through Saturday, October 4. The final donation is expected to be presented at the team’s home opener against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, October 5.
Hurricane Ike, which made landfall Saturday, September 13 in Galveston as a severe Category 2 storm, caused extensive damage throughout the nation’s fourth-largest city, including damage to the retractable roof at Reliant Stadium.
