Rep. Veasey Statement on Energy and Water Appropriations Act, 2016

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 1, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement after voting against H.R. 2028, the Energy and Water Appropriations Act, 2016:

“I voted against the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2016 because this legislation fails to make the important investments necessary to provide clean energy and water for America’s future. It is irresponsible for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy programs to be cut by approximately forty one percent from what President Obama requested from Congress and this inadequate investment shortchanges our energy portfolio for future generations. I also have significant concerns regarding several policy riders in this bill that will harm our environment, such as locking in old regulations that encourage mountain top removal mining by allowing fill material to be dumped in rivers and streams. Finally, like all appropriations bills under the Republican Budget framework of this Congress, I have strong objections to continuing with the sequester level spending caps imposed by the Budget Control Act of 2011. We should instead end sequestration and make responsible investments for our nation’s future.”
