The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed to add the Main Street Groundwater Plume site in Burnet Co., TX, to the National Priorities List (NPL) of Superfund sites, a list of sites that pose risks to people’s health and the environment. Superfund is the federal program that investigates and cleans up the most complex, uncontrolled or abandoned hazardous waste sites in the country and converts them into productive community resources by eliminating or reducing public health risks and environmental contamination.

Austin, DFW and Houston Businesses Saved $145 Million with Energy Efficient buildings

Three of Texas’ major metropolitan areas are embracing energy efficiency to save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by meeting EPA’s Energy Star requirements. Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston jointly have over 500 buildings with Energy Star certifications—saving a combined $145 million.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced Odessa, Texas, as the nation’s leader among smaller cities for Energy Star certified buildings. Odessa boasts 31 buildings with the certification—all schools and school administration offices—totaling 3.1 million square feet. The energy savings from these buildings total $2.4 million. This represents the equivalent of the annual electricity use of 1,800 homes.

According to information presented in court, from July 2006 to March 2008, in the Eastern District of Texas and elsewhere, Santens conspired with Irons, Limbrick, Preston, Patterson, and Allen to engage in monetary transactions in criminally-derived property of a value greater than $10,000, which property was derived from wire fraud, that is a scheme to induce lending institutions to fund mortgage loans for residential properties for which the property values had been fraudulently inflated for buyers who had been fraudulently qualified for loans.
